Hideo Kojima, has been honored with the 72nd Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Award for Fine Arts (media arts category) today. 

DEATH STRANDING DIRECTOR’S CUT, now available on PlayStation 5 and PC, was highly acclaimed by the selection committee from the Agency of Culture Affairs Japan and Hideo Kojima has been selected to receive the distinguished Fine Arts award. This is the first time that someone from the games industry has received this award in the media arts category since 2010.

The Award for Fine Arts is a historical award given every year since 1950 to individuals who have made outstanding achievements in various fields of the arts and who have opened up new frontiers. The Fine Arts are awarded in each of 11 categories - theater, film, music, dance, literature, fine arts, broadcasting, popular performing arts, promotion of the arts, critique, and media arts. The Minister's Awards and the New Artist Awards are selected for those who have made brilliant achievements during the past year.

Upon receiving the award, Hideo Kojima tweeted, “I am very happy that the…medium of games has been highly evaluated as a cultural art form of "expression". I will continue to devote myself to the creation of digital entertainment.”
