Pizza is one of our favourite foods! It’s so popular that countries around the world have their own “Pizza Day,” like the “National Pizza Day” that happens annually on February 9th. To continue the celebration and our love for pizza, we want to introduce you to one of the unique Preppers who appears in DEATH STRANDING 2: ON THE BEACH - the Pizza Chef! 

■ Who is the Pizza Chef? 🍕

“I intend to rebuild this pizzeria of mine. For the new world and the people who will need to be fed.” 

The Pizza Chef runs “Pizza Atami,” a place where one can enjoy some truly scrumptious pizza, located past the valley south of the F2 South Delivery Center. Although he appears rather curt through the hologram at the delivery terminal, he seems troubled by something he has dropped. 

Sam is on a mission to reconnect the Australian continent, but when it comes to helping a craftsman devoted to creating a dish beloved around the world, any Porter with a heart would want to help. 

 “Those who dare disrespect pizza do not deserve to live!” 

The chef shows no mercy to anyone who disrespects pizza. He has adapted the art of pizza‑making into a form of combat to defend himself. Deepen your bond with the Pizza Chef and he will teach you his secret techniques which will give you the edge in combat as you journey across Australia. 

■ An Out-of-This-World Encounter 🍕 

Raising the connection with the chef eventually triggers a “special” order. You’ll want to make use of your delivery skills and aim for the best results! Looking at the map of the area surrounding Pizza Atami, you may notice that it looks like a pizza with a missing slice. And maybe even something else ... waka waka waka ... 

■ So, Who Played the Chef? 🍕

The chef himself is based on Mamoru Oshii—a legendary director and screenwriter in the world of anime, most famous for creating the films “Mobile Police Patlabor” and “Ghost in the Shell”. He also happens to be an exceptional Porter with several thousands of hours under his belt playing the original DEATH STRANDING. 

Mr. Oshii has also taken part in some of the action through motion capture. At KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS, performances by actors, such as Norman Reedus, get captured in the greatest detail including how they breathe, which would then be brought into the game. However, this was the first time a guest prepper acted out the scenes themselves. Everyone including the stunt coordinator, the stunt team, Hideo Kojima, and Mr. Oshii himself, put in their all to deliver an incredible fight scene. It is very much worth witnessing this within the game. 

Mr. Oshii also appeared as a guest in the DEATH STRANDING WORLD STRAND TOUR 2 in TOKYO event held last year, who had plenty to say about what happened during the capture process. A recording of his appearance can be enjoyed here:
